I grew up in Owen Sound. I went to school at Ryerson and Strathcona, and graduated from the old OSCVI back in 1981.
After high school, I started working in construction for Steve Davis Construction, and when he downsized his business a few years later, Colbert Seupersaud, his chief painter, called me up and asked if I wanted to come work for him. I’d discovered my niche. I enjoyed painting; I like doing things that need to be done correctly and done right. So I took him up on the offer.
After about five years, Colbert bought the Benjamin Moore dealership in Owen Sound, and he hooked me up with Ralph Monk. I worked for Ralph for seven years as a full-time painter. Ralph had been painting in Owen Sound since the 60s, and bit by bit, he shared his experience with me.
In 1993, I decided to strike out on my own, and 30 years later, I’m still at it.
